Neoen inaugurates Arena Po, its first solar farm in Italy, contracted with Equinix
  • Neoen is inaugurating its first solar farm in Italy at Arena Po in Lombardy
  • The 7.4 MWp Arena Po solar farm is part of a portfolio of projects which underpin Neoen’s 53 MW Italian PPA with Equinix
  • The energy generated will contribute to decarbonising Equinix’s data centers in northern Italy
  • Neoen has 120 MW total capacity in operation or under construction in Italy

Neoen, one of the world’s leading independent producers of exclusively renewable energy, is inaugurating its first solar farm in Italy. Located in the municipality of Arena Po, in Lombardy, the 7.4 MWp solar farm started injecting electricity into the grid at the start of 2026 and is now fully operational. Its annual production is expected to be 11.9 GWh which corresponds to the energy consumption of 8,000 people while avoiding almost 3,300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

The energy generated by the Arena Po solar farm forms part of a 53 MW ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed between Neoen and Equinix, one of the world’s leading digital infrastructure companies, in November 2024. The PPA covers a portfolio of solar projects, all located in northern Italy, close to Equinix’s data centers in Milan and Genoa. Structured as a portfolio approach, the agreement supports the development of new renewable energy capacity and contributes to Italy’s National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) targets for 2030.

The agreement marks the two companies’ first power purchase agreement (PPA) in Italy and their fifth across Europe in recent years, representing a total of 210 MW of contracted capacity. This includes a ten‑year PPA in Finland signed in January 2023 under which Equinix will offtake 60% of the energy generated by Neoen’s 105 MW Storbötet wind farm.

Neoen’s total capacity in operation or under construction in Italy stands at 120 MW and the company aims to become a key player in Italy and a significant contributor to the development of renewable energy in the country. With teams based in Brescia, Modena, Roma and Milan, the company is actively developing a 2.3 GW pipeline of solar and battery storage projects.

Andrea Bartolini and Daniele Lucchi, Co-Managing Directors of Neoen Italy, jointly stated: « We are proud to be inaugurating our first solar farm in Italy, the first of many to come. We would like to thank our partners whose hard work and dedication has made this possible. We are delighted to be celebrating this milestone with Equinix, and to be now providing them with competitively priced clean energy to support their growth. »

Emanuela Grandi, Managing Director of Equinix Italy, said: “As AI drives unprecedented demand for digital infrastructure, our partnership with Neoen reflects our commitment to minimising our environmental impact and supporting our customers’ climate goals. We’re proud that our Italian operations are already covered by 100% renewable energy and this project builds on that, reinforcing our path to 100% renewable energy coverage globally by 2030. It also enables us to expand our data center footprint in Italy while contributing directly to the country’s decarbonisation efforts and adding new clean generation capacity to local grids.”

Louis de Sambucy, Regional CEO Europe for Neoen concluded: « This milestone is a testament to the excellence of the team in Italy and to the strength of our collaboration with Equinix, to whom we are now delivering energy in 3 countries. It is a clear demonstration that data center growth and renewable energy can go hand-in hand. We look forward to unlocking more opportunities in Italy and across Europe to deliver competitively priced, clean energy and innovative solutions to our customers. »
