• Neoen has launched construction of Pasian di Prato Battery (25 MW / 100 MWh) in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia
• The project was awarded a contract in the Italian Capacity Market in February 2025 and is expected to be operational in 2027
• This is Neoen’s second storage asset in Italy, following Broni Battery (10 MW / 40 MWh) which is currently midway through construction
• Including solar, Neoen’s total capacity in operation or under construction in Italy has now reached 120 MW

Neoen, one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, has provided notice to proceed to a consortium of Huawei and PLC SPA for the construction of its Pasian di Prato Battery (25 MW / 100 MWh), located in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The four-hour duration battery was awarded a capacity contract in February 2025 in the Italian Capacity Market, which is designed to strengthen the resilience and flexibility of the national electricity system. The asset is expected to be operational in 2027.

The Pasian di Prato Battery represents a new strategic asset for the Italian grid, providing firm capacity during periods of system stress. It will support Terna, the Italian grid operator, to maintain reliability while enabling a higher penetration of renewable energy. By storing excess renewable production and delivering electricity during periods of peak demand, the battery will contribute to reducing curtailment, stabilising the network and enhancing Italy’s long term energy security.

The announcement comes less than a year after the launch of Neoen’s first storage project in the region of Pavia in Italy, Broni Battery (10 MW / 40 MWh), which also has a Capacity Market contract. Broni Battery is now midway through construction and expected to be operational in 2026.

This milestone represents another positive step for Neoen’s growth in Italy. The company now has 120 MW of capacity in operation or under construction, including 85 MWp of solar, as well as a 2,3 GW development pipeline of battery storage and solar capacity.
